What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Specialist - ANTICIPATED position at Garrison Elementary School?
The behavior specialist is a school-wide position that proactively works with all students who need either periodic or prolonged support to be successful in school. This position provides behavioral support to meet the needs of students and faculty in all school settings. The behavior specialist develops and implements direct support and interventions for students who are in behavioral or emotional difficulty.
At Garrison, the behavior specialist works closely with a behavior paraprofessional, along with student specific paras. The behavior specialist is also part of a strong and supportive building team consisting of two school counselors, the school nurse, and administration. This position is fast paced, and allows for flexibility and creativity within the day with support from colleagues. The right candidate will have a great sense of humor, perseverance, compassion, and be organized and a self-starter.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

●Provide interdisciplinary collaboration with community agencies and school personnel.
●Coach and facilitate SEL initiatives
●Develop a school-wide intervention program for students who have been removed from class.
●Coordinate support with guidance personnel.
●Contribute to pupil assistance team meetings.
●Support Deans in working directly with students.
●Work with parents to communicate in-school efforts and to provide follow-up strategies.
●Provide individual counseling, FBA (Functional Behavior Assessments) and Behavior plans as needed.
●Assist with development of written behavioral plans for students referred through the pupil assistance team or special education team.
●Provide support and instruction in the area of social and behavioral skills to students in class or small group settings.
●Develop and facilitate school adjustment counseling groups for students as needed.
●Provide individual counseling as identified on the student’s IEP program.
●Assist teachers in implementation of IEP objectives and data collection systems,
●Participate as a member of the pupil assistance team.
●Develop and provide training for staff on a variety of mental health topics as needed.
●Attend department and administrative meetings as deemed appropriate.
●Prepare composite end-of-year summaries for students served.
●Design and implement alternative social programs and activities.
●Collect and enter discipline data.
