Position: Fabrication Painter

Summary: The Fabrication Painter runs a project from start to finish Independently. The Fab Painter creates layouts, and finishes treatment of scenery, or other projects, as directed by the shop foreman. This fabricator works with wood, steel, plastics, paints, and other materials as required, and performs the application of finish treatments of different materials. The Fabrication Painter reports to the Director of Operation.

Essential Functions

Major Responsibilities

Supervision

  • Ensure departmental goals of safety, quality, productivity, utilization, costs, and delivery schedules are met.
  • Keep and operate a clean and safe workspace.

Project Planning and Design

  • Read and interpret plans to produce quality products.
  • Schedule production activities and maintain inventory to increase production and quality.
  • Inspect work to verify finishes.

Painting

  • Perform repair materials for finish.
  • Application of finish material error-free.

Attendance

  • Attendance is an essential requirement for this position.

Any Other Duties As Assigned By Supervisor

  • To be determined by supervisor on a permanent or project basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Certificates

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License – Good Driving Record

Experience

  • 3 years or more of shop experience.

Skills/Abilities

  • Familiarity with the operation of all shop paint spraying equipment, air compressors, and paint canisters.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Understanding of basic Theatre terminology.
  • Understanding of basic shop safety terminology.

Physical Requirements

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work at a consistent pace throughout the shift
  • Due to the complexity and weight of the equipment, adequate stamina and physical strength are necessary to perform the duties of the job
  • Work with power cables and power distribution in common live event environments
  • Work under any prevailing terrain and weather conditions and be appropriately dressed to do so, regardless of cold, heat, humidity, or wet weather conditions

Strength

  • Frequent manual lifting., depending on equipment available (50-80% of shift)
  • Frequent pushing and pulling, depending on equipment available (50-80% of shift)

Manual Dexterity

  • Sufficient manual dexterity to perform activities required under essential functions
  • Frequent light grasping and fine motor tasks (65-85% of shift)

Coordination

  • Ability to perform gross body coordination and hand-eye coordination tasks without instability
  • Work on a variety of uneven surfaces installing power cables and lights

Mobility

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, squat, lift, crawl, twist and move frequently during working hours
  • Frequent standing (65-85%)
  • Occasional stair climbing and descending (30% of shift)

Visual

  • Must be able to see or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to ensure that the essential functions of this position can be fully met

Hearing

  • Must be able to hear or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to ensure that the essential functions of this position can be fully met

Speech

  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner
