Job Summary: The Onsite Sunday Worship Service Musician is responsible for providing musical accompaniment for Sunday Worship Services and other special events at the St. Cloud VA Health Care System. This role includes playing for both Protestant and Roman Catholic services, ensuring a supportive and uplifting worship experience for veterans and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
Musical Accompaniment:
Provide piano or organ accompaniment for Sunday Worship Services.
Perform for one Protestant Worship Service (9:00 am) and one Roman Catholic Mass (10:30 am) each Sunday.
Prepare and perform music for additional services as required, including special programs like Good Friday, Thanksgiving, Last Role Call, and Ceremonies of Remembrance.
Service Preparation:
Arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of services.
Collaborate with Chaplain Service staff and other contracted musicians to develop a monthly schedule.
Receive hymn and music selections in advance from Chaplain Service staff.
Adaptability and Coordination:
Adapt to various denominations and expectations of different Chaplains.
Coordinate with other musicians for substitutions when necessary.
Remain flexible to accommodate changes in service times and additional services as needed.
Special Program Support:
Participate in intermittent, unscheduled special programs as required.
Ensure readiness for any special program with at least one week’s notice provided by Chaplain Service staff. Qualifications:
Proficiency in playing the piano or organ, with strong knowledge of keyboard technique.
Ability to perform a wide array of religious music suitable for Roman Catholic Mass and Protestant Worship Services.
Strong sight-reading skills and ability to improvise as needed.
Understanding of acoustics and the ability to adapt to the worship space.
Excellent interpersonal skills to engage comfortably with worship attendees and staff.
Basic knowledge of music harmony and ability to maintain proficiency through regular practice. Administrative Requirements:
Collaborate with Chaplain Service staff for hymn selections and music preparation.
Ensure communication with Chaplain Service Program Support Assistant for any schedule adjustments or substitutions. Application Instructions:

Contract Details:
The position is for a one-year base period with the possibility of four additional option years.
The contract includes the performance of up to 70 services per year, with flexibility in scheduling.
