General Motors Milford Proving Grounds have needs for qualified Automotive Inspector Journeypersons. Working under minimal supervision, the Automotive Inspector Journeyperson is responsible to build and remove properties used for test validation of the product design as well as an evaluation of the manufacturing processes.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures
  • General Machining Skills
  • Basic Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Accurately record/input assembly and teardown data and findings into computer
  • Read blueprints utilizing geometric tolerancing and specifications
  • Perform vehicle alterations for Engineering's prototype parts
  • Work with Production, Engineering and peers in a team environment
  • Written & Verbal Communication Skills
  • Component Installation/Removal
  • Oil Changes/Grease, Including Oil Weighs
  • Tire Change and Balance
  • Wheel Alignments
  • Welding and Fabrication
  • Diagnose Mechanical Failures and Repair
  • Diagnose Electrical Problems and Repair to Include Wiring Repairs
  • Read and Interpret Schematics Drawings
  • MDI Usage or Equivalent Diagnostic Tool
  • Road Test Vehicles (dynamic evaluation)
  • Vehicle Scrapping
  • Torque Checks and Scribing
  • Data Logger Install, Removal and Checks
  • Major Removal of Equipment for Access
  • Vehicle HVAC Repair
  • Installation of Halon Systems
  • Wrecker Operations
  • Chauffer's License
  • Inspect/Document Vehicles Condition
  • Clutch Pedal Effort & Throttle Pedal Effort
  • Scheduled Periodic Component Measurement
  • Vehicle Numbering ID
  • Speedometer Checks
  • Headlamp Aiming/Setup
  • Schedule Inspection Times
  • Disassemble Vehicles for Engineering Review
  • Perform Vehicle Cut-Ups
  • Squeak and Rattle Investigation
  • Panel Alignments

Additional Job Description

Interested individuals must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • U.S. Department of Labor Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate as an Assembler Inspector or Experimental Auto Journeyperson or six (6) years of documented experience in a related field such as Vehicle Mechanic or Vehicle Technician (notarized documentation required)
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete the General Motors hiring process requirements which includecomprehensive assessments, hair drug testing, and a background check
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be willing to work flexible shift hours and day, afternoon, or night shifts as well as overtime hours daily, weekend and holidays on those shifts with little notice
