The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description • Work independently on painting projects requiring special surface preparation, remixing of paints to match specified colors, and painting calling for fine finish and decorative treatment.• Assign work to painting crew.• Assemble materials, tools and equipment required to accomplish work.• Apply paint, varnish, stains, enamel, or lacquer to interior and exterior surfaces, trimming and fixtures of buildings, to furniture, a variety of equipment, signs and like surfaces requiring protective or decorative treatment.• As required erect scaffolding, swing stages or ladders.• Prepare surfaces for painting using a variety of tools and materials including sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool, and if required removes paints using paint remover, blow torch, wire brush or scraper.• Fill nail holes, cracks or joints with putty, plaster, or other filler.• Paint surfaces using brush, spray gun or paint roller.• Perform other duties as assigned.Operational Needs: • Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New York State motor vehicle operator’s license.• Asbestos certification required within 90 days of appointment as well as compliance with all related PESH/OSHA regulations.• Able to work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, platform lifts, boom lifts, etc.• Able to operate a variety of forklifts (OSHA certification provided after appointment)• Able to lift a minimum of 80 lbs.• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and applicable building codes and regulations.

The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in painting under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in painting at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.Application Process - Candidates are required to provide specific, verifiable information about their qualifying experience with the Application for Posted Position (ADM 227). This information should be on the letterhead of the employer under whom the qualifying experience was gained and include names and titles of supervisors, duties performed during the training period and specific dates of employment and be signed by that employer.• Candidates qualifying through the completion of appropriate course work should include a copy of their transcript or listing of course work completed. • A copy of a trades union card is acceptable documentary proof of qualification.• Candidates who do not submit appropriate documentary proof that they meet the minimum qualifications will not be considered for appointment.
