The Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) is looking for the right passionate, energetic, motivated person to join our team to make a difference in our community. Together, we support, empower and connect individuals, families and communities to prevent mental health and substance use disorders through active collaboration.
As a Prevention Specialist, you will lead the coordination and implementation of substance use prevention programs and services according to the GCPC's Vision and Mission. Your capabilities and work experience will include community outreach, meeting facilitation, strategic planning, coalition development, health education, behavioral health programming and community collaboration. A working knowledge of the Strategic Prevention Framework and other public health models will help you be most effective in this role. We engage with other community-based providers of behavioral health care services, area schools, community organizations, businesses, families, and youth to carry out our work and make a difference both today and for the future.
Position Summary
This position works primarily in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community-based and environmental strategies to address substance misuse issues among youth and adults in Genesee County. You will deliver evidence-based strategies, with a focus on preventing underage drinking and supporting healthy youth development. You will work collaboratively with other staff and community partners to achieve shared goals and outcomes.

- Proficient in using a computer, especially Microsoft applications
- Be skilled in developing effective social media marketing and messaging
- Possess cultural intelligence to comfortably work with diverse populations
- Be able to work independently as well as with a team
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work (non-clinical), Education, Psychology, or another human service-related field.
MCBAP Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS), Certified Prevention Consultant (CPC), or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES/MCHES) or ability to receive certification within two years.
Demonstrated success in engaging with the public and facilitating various size groups and meetings - both informal and formal.
Minimum three years of increasing responsibility and experience in program management or Master's degree and one year of experience.
Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License, current automobile insurance and use of vehicle during working hours.
Job Type: Full-Time with benefits and paid time off
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00/hour depending on experience
Physical Work Environment:
- A hybrid arrangement involving both in-office and remote work
- Ability to physically set up and facilitate community events
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, carry and transport materials to and from events
- Ability to participate in meetings both in person and remotely
- Ability to perform computer-based work
