Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Traffic Controller to manage the flow of traffic around construction sites and utility locations. The ideal candidate will ensure safety and efficiency by directing vehicles and pedestrians, while also coordinating with construction crews. This role is essential for maintaining a safe working environment and facilitating smooth operations on-site.
Duties
- Direct traffic around construction sites, ensuring the safety of workers and the public.
- Coordinate with utility locating teams to manage site access effectively.
- Monitor and control vehicle movement using appropriate signals and signage.
- Communicate clearly with construction crews regarding traffic patterns and site conditions.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of traffic control equipment as needed.
- Maintain awareness of surrounding conditions to anticipate potential hazards.
- Operate construction equipment such as bulldozers, graders, backhoes, dump trucks, and loaders when required.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and protocols on-site.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar role or within a construction environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with utility locating processes is a plus.
- Ability to operate various types of heavy machinery including Caterpillar equipment, bulldozers, graders, backhoes, dump trucks, and loaders.
- Strong communication skills to effectively relay information to both crew members and the public.
- Excellent observational skills to identify potential hazards or issues in real-time.
- Must be physically fit to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks as required.
- A valid driver's license may be required depending on operational needs.
