Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job
Under the direction of the Director of Laboratory Services, the Laboratory Manager or Supervisor, manages the Performance Improvement/QA functions of the Laboratory and is responsible for the enhancement of all aspects of Laboratory Services through ongoing monitoring and application of quality improvement principles, concepts, and technologies.
- Is accountable and responsible for the overall design, coordination, and integration of quality/performance measurement, improvement utilization, initiatives, and outcomes.
- Plans, participates, and implements PI/QA activities and the provision of all associated educational activities.
- Responsible for department compliance with accreditation agencies' standards and regulations (CAP, AABB, FDA, JCAHO, COLA) and ensuring laboratory accreditation.
- Oversees and maintains department policies and procedures to comply with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
- Responsible for the establishment and ongoing monitoring of PI indicators and thresholds, outcomes monitoring, and data analyses.
- Investigates all risk management, patient/customer, and physician satisfaction issues and outcome resolution; works in collaboration with Risk Management, Quality Management, and/or other involved or associated parties to effect positive resolution and initiates necessary action at the department level.
- Participates in accredited performance improvement programs laboratory services, all such data collection, data input, and result analysis of benchmark.
- Performs all automated and manual testing on patients and quality control materials in the Hematology/Coagulation, Chemistry Section & Urinalysis, Microbiology/Serology, and Blood Bank Section, as needed.
- Assists with the Implementation of new equipment and procedures in a timely manner.
- Assist with the completion of all required validation studies.
- Completes annual competency assessment successfully and by assigned date.

- Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent degree required.
Experience Required
- 3-5 years as a Medical Technologist, MLS, CLS, or Equivalent required.
Knowledge of
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
- Knowledge of the use and maintenance of laboratory facilities and/or equipment.
- Knowledge of teaching laboratory materials receiving and storage procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory operations and/or procedures.
- Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards.
Ability to
- Ability to prepare reagents according to CLIA standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to provide technical guidance documents, validation plans, and training to end users.
- Ability to utilize, calibrate, configure and/or troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Ability to maintain records and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Required Certifications:
American Medical Technologists - American Medical Technologists, Phlebotomy Technician (ASCP) - American Society of Clinical Pathologists
- ASCP, AMT, or other laboratory certification required.

Pay: $93,000.00 - $119,000.00 per year
