Position Overview:
The job of the ALE (Alternative Learning Environment) paraprofessional was established for the purpose/s of assisting teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of alternative learning students; performing classroom clerical tasks, assisting students in the ALE classroom and during push-out inclusion services in the regular education classroom, and in developing students' daily living and behavioral skills.
Responsibilities:
The ALE paraprofessional will work under the ALE classroom teachers and administration to provide student support through lesson plans and classroom procedures. Additionally, they will:
- Confer with teachers (ALE, content, specials, SpEd, ELL) to evaluate students' progress and/or implement students' learning goals/objectives.
- Confer with teachers and administrators, to implement plans to improve students' social and daily living skills through goal setting and inclusive practices.
- Under teacher direction, implement instructional programs in accordance with lesson plans to assist the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study.
- Monitor individuals in the ALE environment and general education classrooms to support positive peer interactions and facilitate academic progress.
- Perform record keeping and clerical functions to support the teacher and/or administrator in providing accurate and up-to-date records/materials.
- Support the teacher with data collection to document activities and/or providing reliable information toward student goals and behaviors.
- Adhere to punctuality and daily attendance requirements to ensure the ALE students' goals and records are met, schedules are consistent, and they can attend inclusive services.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient, effective functioning of the ALE classroom.

- Demonstrate reliable attendance to maximum student instruction and enhance learning outcomes.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to lift at least 30 pounds.
- Ability to provide physical assistance to students in emergency situations, including evacuations or lockdowns.
- Must have the stamina and agility required to care for active students in a school setting.
Work Environment:
- Works in standard office and school building environments.
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
- May be required to provide student behavior support using appropriate restraint or seclusion techniques for student safety purposes.
