Description
This position maintains a comprehensive accounting program which integrates Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Accounting Standards, statutory/budgetary accounting requirements, Department fiscal policies and procedures, and general office administrative operations. This position ensures that the amounts put into the state’s accounting financial system for the department are accurate and that revenues and expenses are input timely and recorded properly in the financial system. This role is hybrid and may require several days a week in our Atlanta office depending on business needs.
Responsibilities
Records, reports, and maintains accounting data accurately, efficiently and timely in the state’s accounting financial system.
Complete and/or reviews reconciliations monthly on all accounting records, including journals, ledgers, banking statements, shared services payroll interface, automated travel system, shared services accounts payable, financial reports, and purchasing cards.
Monitors all revenues and expenses of the department, including daily, monthly, and quarterly financial reports. Ensures that the chart fields documenting the expense are accurate and aligned with state policies and procedures.
Prepares all allocations for select vendors before post to financial system.
Acts as department subject matter expert and liaison for state’s travel system for employees. Ensures amounts are entered correctly and follows up if changes are needed to ensure accurate reporting.
Assists in the preparation of year-end close-out procedures. Works with the director to prepare the year-end financial statements to ensure the external CPAs have all information necessary to conduct the annual audit.
Oversees internal control policies and procedures relating to accounting and payroll practices and makes recommendations for changes, as needed, to improve internal controls over such operations.
Reviews asset management activities for the Department to include activities such as reviewing purchases to ensure compliance with the asset management system, reviewing reports to ensure asset management records are accurate and up-to-date, and coordinating the physical inventory.
Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
Completion of Bachelor’s (four year) degree in Accounting
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification
Five years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, at least two of which must have been in governmental accounting
Intermediate level of knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
The hiring range is $71,257- $87,091 . Compensation will be commensurate with education, certifications, and experience.
