Summary
Provide basic fabrication or characterization process and/or equipment engineering services within an academic or research unit. This position will interact regularly with faculty, staff, students, researchers, vendors, and contractors. This position typically will advise and counsel: faculty, staff, students, researchers, vendors, and contractors. This position will supervise: NA.
Job Duties
- Perform basic design and installation of laboratory equipment and processes
- Review and provide input to engineering plans and specifications for laboratory equipment or processes.
- Perform basic troubleshooting associated with laboratory equipment or processes; may involve calibration and repair work.
- Prepare drawings, schematic diagrams and related documentation associated with laboratory equipment or processes.
- Monitor expenses incurred; prepare related reports.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- One to two years of job-related experience
SKILLS: This job requires professional-level knowledge and skills in the application of fabrication processes and equipment engineering principles, processes, and practices. Skills in the application of regulations, codes, and safety practices associated with research laboratory conditions, as is the use of office and engineering/technical related computer applications, databases, and systems.
Preferred Qualifications for an Experienced Equipment Engineer in the Semiconductor Industry:
- Extensive Semiconductor Equipment Expertise: Proven ability to diagnose, maintain, and optimize advanced semiconductor fabrication tools, including deposition, etching, lithography, and metrology equipment.
- Process Integration Knowledge: Deep understanding of how equipment performance impacts process integration and yield in semiconductor research and development, focusing on continuous improvement and reliability.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Strong track record of mentoring junior engineers and technicians, sharing expertise, and leading cross-functional teams to achieve complex project goals.
- Vendor Collaboration: Experience working closely with equipment manufacturers to evaluate, procure, install, upgrade, and implement cutting-edge technologies and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Data-driven decision-making: Skilled in using statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis tools to monitor equipment performance and drive predictive maintenance strategies. These skills, combined with 20 years of hands-on experience, ensure the candidate can contribute significantly in a demanding and rapidly evolving industry.
