Position Title: Assistant Director of Security
Germantown Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on a beautiful 126-acre campus in the Fort Washington suburbs near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school serves more than 1,200 students in grades PK-12. Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Security position reports to the Director of Security and supervises the daily tasks of the security department. The Assistant Director of Security manages and oversees the security officers that serve the Academy’s 126-acre campus. The role will regularly engage students, employees, families, and vendors of Germantown Academy. We are seeking candidates for a full-time position to join our community beginning July 2025. This is a 12-month position with an excellent array of benefits and a competitive salary.
Key Responsibilities:
•Act in the capacity of the Director of Security in their absence.
•Communicate and collaborate with the Director of Security daily on issues or needs within the department and school.
•Assist the Director of Security in developing operational, emergency, and special event procedures.
•Assist the Director of Security in budgeting, planning, and forecasting
•Assist the Security Supervisor with daily and monthly scheduling.
•Assist the Director of Security with the supervision and evaluation of the security personnel.
•Communicate daily shift assignments to all personnel at the beginning of each shift.
•Direct and supervise the security assignments and special details.
•Monitor Security Staff to ensure compliance with department and school policies and procedures.
•Proactively assist in the continual evaluation and assessment of campus safety.
•Coordinate all security needs deemed necessary for school meetings, activities, rentals, and special events.
•Assist Director of Security in selecting and hiring new employees.
•Research job specific training and recommend staff attendance.
•Seek safety & security grant opportunities, apply for, and administer the same.
•Prepare and submit appropriate applications to Whitemarsh Township for Special Event Permitting.
•Control video storage and are responsible for dissemination of recorded videos for investigations.
•Oversee the operation and maintenance of the campus Fire alarm systems in collaboration with the Maintenance Department.
•Submit written reports of all incidents of vandalism, violence, or other security violations and keep a record of the same.
•Advise and/or respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis as needed.
•Foster a culture of personal accountability, service, and support to the entire community.
•Perform all other duties as needed or directed
Physical and Environmental Demands:
•Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
•Sit, stand, and walk for required periods of time.
•Communicate effectively in English. Speak clearly and hear adequately.
•Exposure to a variety of weather conditions year-round.
Education:
•Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.
•Successful completion of nationally recognized advanced supervision and/or leadership training.
Qualifications:
•Extensive law enforcement or emergency services background and experience.
•National Incident Management System (NIMS) training 100,200,300,700,800 levels or equivalent.
•Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
•Experience in the Fire Service and Fire Code Standards preferred.
•Experience supervising, leading and coordinating a medium-sized school security department or police agency preferred.
•Knowledge of security measures, security policies and procedures, and crisis management.
•Ability to maintain order and to work with groups and individuals on matters of security and crisis management.
•NASRO Basic SRO training course completion (per PA Act 67 of 2019 and applicable amendments) strongly preferred.
•NASRO Advanced SRO training preferred.
•Excellent oral and written skills
•Experience presenting to management teams and /or senior leadership.
•Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
•Good communication and relationship-building skills with people of various backgrounds.
•Must be self-motivated and able to exercise sound judgement in prioritizing tasks to meet various deadlines and needs.
•Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
•Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
•Must be willing to be a part a “team” environment and work toward communicated goals.
•Hold a valid driver’s license with no serious violations.
•Ability to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
