As a Principal Engineer, Electrical Systems, you will spearhead the design and development of large-scale generator systems, operating at the megawatt level. You will manage projects from initial concept through to commissioning, ensuring that control systems, power systems, and network integration are optimized for maximum efficiency, safety, and dependability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the comprehensive design, development, and execution of large-scale generator systems.
- Conduct load analyses, fault studies, and risk assessments to guarantee peak performance and safety.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for the integration of generator systems within industrial and commercial power networks.
- Develop and set up SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and control of generator systems.
- Program PLCs (e.g., B&R, Siemens, Allen-Bradley) to oversee instrumentation for fuel, air, cooling, and pressure systems.
- Create control logic that optimizes generator operation by synchronizing fuel supply, air intake, cooling rates, and pressure feedback.
- Design and uphold robust network architectures utilizing TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus protocols.
- Employ advanced modeling tools like Simulink to simulate electrical systems, control algorithms, and generator dynamics.
- Ensure that designs comply with UL standards, NEC, and IEEE codes.
- Manage generator system projects through to on-site installation and commissioning.
- Lead system testing and commissioning to ensure seamless integration of subsystems.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred).
- Over 15 years of experience in electrical engineering, emphasizing PLC integration, instrumentation, and SCADA systems.
- Proven expertise in the design and commissioning of megawatt-scale generator systems.
- Practical experience with PLCs and SCADA protocols, including Modbus and Ethernet/IP.
- Familiarity with modeling tools such as Simulink.
- In-depth knowledge of integrating fuel, air, cooling, and pressure systems into control strategies.
- Proficient in control systems, data acquisition, and HMI interfaces.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior engineers.
- Excellent communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
