As a Principal Engineer specializing in Electrical Systems, you will take charge of the design and development of large-scale generator systems at the megawatt level. You will manage projects from the initial concept through to commissioning, focusing on the optimization of control systems, power systems, and network integration to achieve peak performance, safety, and dependability.
Key Responsibilities
- Spearhead the comprehensive design, development, and implementation of large-scale generator systems.
- Conduct load analyses, fault studies, and risk assessments to guarantee optimal performance and safety.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to effectively integrate generator systems into commercial or industrial power networks.
- Develop and configure SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and control of generator systems.
- Program PLCs (including B&R, Siemens, Allen-Bradley) to manage instrumentation for fuel, air, cooling, and pressure systems.
- Create control logic to optimize generator operations, ensuring synchronization of fuel supply, air intake, cooling rates, and pressure feedback.
- Troubleshoot and resolve PLC-related challenges to maintain stable communication and performance across systems.
- Design and maintain robust network architectures utilizing TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus protocols.
- Employ advanced modeling tools like Simulink to simulate electrical systems, control algorithms, and generator dynamics, optimizing performance through simulations prior to physical implementation.
- Ensure compliance with UL standards, NEC, and IEEE codes, conducting arc flash studies and preparing necessary documentation for regulatory certifications.
- Oversee generator system projects from design through on-site installation and commissioning, acting as a technical authority and mentoring junior engineers in system integration and optimization.
- Lead system testing and commissioning, ensuring seamless integration of critical subsystems such as fuel, air, cooling, and pressure systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical engineering, emphasizing PLC integration, instrumentation, and SCADA systems.
- Proven expertise in designing and commissioning megawatt-scale generator systems.
- Practical experience with PLCs and SCADA protocols such as Modbus and Ethernet/IP.
- Familiarity with advanced modeling tools, including Simulink.
- Extensive understanding of integrating fuel, air, cooling, and pressure systems into control strategies.
- Proficiency in control systems, data acquisition, and HMI interfaces.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities.
- Effective leadership and mentoring skills.
- Exceptional communication abilities, facilitating dialogue with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
