As a Principal Engineer, Electrical Systems, you will play a pivotal role in leading the design and development of large-scale generator systems at the megawatt scale. You will manage projects from initial concept through to commissioning, focusing on the optimization of control systems, power systems, and network integration to guarantee peak performance, safety, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Spearhead the comprehensive design, development, and implementation of large-scale generator systems.
- Conduct load analysis, fault studies, and risk assessments to ensure the highest levels of performance and safety.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to successfully integrate generator systems within industrial or commercial power networks.
- Develop and configure SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and control of generator systems.
- Program PLCs (e.g., B&R, Siemens, Allen-Bradley) to efficiently manage instrumentation for fuel, air, cooling, and pressure systems.
- Create control logic to enhance generator operation, ensuring synchronization of fuel supply, air intake, cooling rates, and pressure feedback.
- Troubleshoot and resolve PLC-related issues to maintain communication stability and operational performance.
- Design and sustain robust network architectures utilizing TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus protocols.
- Implement redundancy, fault tolerance, and secure communication strategies throughout systems.
- Employ advanced modeling tools, such as Simulink, to simulate electrical systems, control algorithms, and generator dynamics.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including UL, NEC, and IEEE codes, conducting arc flash studies and preparing documentation for certifications.
- Oversee generator system projects from design through to on-site installation and commissioning, serving as a technical expert and mentor to junior engineers.
- Lead system testing and commissioning to ensure the seamless integration of subsystems, utilizing simulation models and field data to refine performance during deployment.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
- 15 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a concentration on PLC integration, instrumentation, and SCADA systems.
- Proven expertise in the design and commissioning of megawatt-scale generator systems.
- Extensive hands-on experience with PLCs and SCADA protocols such as Modbus and Ethernet/IP.
- Familiarity with modeling tools including Simulink.
- In-depth knowledge of integrating fuel, air, cooling, and pressure systems into control strategies.
- Proficiency in control systems, data acquisition, and HMI interfaces.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Effective leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
- Exceptional communication capabilities for engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
