Key Responsibilities
- Oversee month-end accounting activities, such as preparing journal entries and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
- Conduct research on data inputs and outcomes related to shipping and freight expenditure.
- Analyze trends in freight and shipping expenses to pinpoint potential discrepancies.
- Collaborate with the finance team to evaluate monthly P&L statements and scrutinize variances against budgetary constraints.
- Work closely with operations, transportation, data, and IT teams to improve efficiencies and share insights.
- Document all accounting procedures and policies to strengthen internal controls.
- Support external audit and tax teams by preparing schedules and supplying necessary data and explanations.
- Review shipping data, costs, contracts, and modifications to determine appropriate accounting treatments.
- Assess critical accounting estimates and assumptions regarding expense recognition and monthly results.
- Assist with special projects and other tasks as required.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years within the transportation/logistics field.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline.
- CPA certification is highly preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of transportation-specific accounting principles.
- Advanced skills in accounting software, database management, and Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency in transportation management software (TMS) is advantageous.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Capability to thrive in a lean, dynamic accounting environment.
