Key Responsibilities
- Month-End Accounting: Execute journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure precise financial reporting.
- Data Analysis: Investigate and analyze data connected to shipping and freight costs, identifying trends and discrepancies.
- Financial Review: Partner with the finance team to assess monthly P&L statements and scrutinize variances against budget expectations.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Collaborate with operations, transportation, data, and IT teams to enhance operational efficiencies and knowledge-sharing.
- Documentation: Sustain thorough narratives of all accounting procedures and policies to bolster internal controls.
- Audit Support: Assist external audit and tax teams by preparing schedules and offering necessary documentation and explanations.
- Accounting Treatment: Analyze shipping data, expenses, contracts, and modifications to determine suitable accounting treatment.
- Critical Analysis: Review accounting estimates and assumptions related to expense recognition, and examine monthly outcomes.
- Project Assistance: Contribute to special projects and ad hoc assignments as required.
- Additional Responsibilities: Assume other duties as necessary to support the team.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a minimum of 3 years within the transportation/logistics sector.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline.
- CPA certification is strongly preferred.
- Proficient understanding of transportation-specific accounting principles.
- Advanced capabilities in accounting software, database management, and Microsoft Excel. Experience with transportation management software (TMS) is advantageous.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to excel in a lean, dynamic accounting environment.
