Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary liaison for research and operations teams, ensuring alignment with the facility’s Environmental Management System and Waste Management Program.
- Assist waste generators in accurately identifying and characterizing waste, excess materials, and recyclable items.
- Provide guidance on the proper management of waste in accordance with applicable regulations and organizational requirements.
- Aid in the development of comprehensive waste sampling strategies that integrate process knowledge.
- Prepare and submit waste characterization documentation for review and certification.
- Identify packaging requirements for waste and contribute to pollution prevention initiatives.
- Participate in organizational assessments and reviews relating to waste and excess materials management.
- Extensive knowledge of environmental compliance, waste management regulations, and relevant environmental laws.
- Strong understanding of Federal and State of Tennessee environmental statutes and programs, particularly in the context of solid and liquid waste management.
- Familiarity with Executive Orders, DOE Orders, and other relevant governmental regulations.
- Technical expertise in areas such as transuranic waste management and environmental compliance.
- Competence with environmental data management tools and waste tracking systems.
- Knowledge of Low-Level Radioactive Waste and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations.
- Understanding of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
- At least five (5) years of applicable experience in environmental or waste management, preferably within a DOE environment.
- Prior experience at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and familiarity with its operational protocols are highly regarded.
