What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds Worker/Refuse Assistant position at Gettysburg College?

Gettysburg College is seeking a full-time Grounds Worker/Refuse Assistant to work in the Facilities Services Department. The successful candidate will assist in all areas of Grounds and Facilities Services while helping service the campus community. This position functions as a principle Grounds Worker helping to preserve the attractive appearance and safety of the campus while also assisting with removal of campus trash and recyclable materials. The Grounds Worker/ Refuse Assistant is responsible for completing all grounds related tasks in a timely manner as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor while also assisting the college’s Refuse Hauler in collecting and depositing refuse in a truck preparing it for removal. When all daily trash and recycling services are completed the successful candidate will assist with all general grounds and landscaping duties as directed by the Grounds Supervisor. Additional duties could include, but are not limited to, serving as backup to the Recycling Hauler position and assisting with campus snow removal. This position reports directly to the Grounds Supervisor and/or Manager of Grounds and Landscaping Services.

Qualifications
A high school education or the equivalent is required. Possession of a valid Commercial Class B Driver’s License is preferred but not a requirement along with a favorable driving record. Experience in grounds and landscape work is also preferred but not a requirement. Due to weather conditions, seasonal events, and operational requirements, this position may be required to work overtime on occasion.
