Public Safety Telecommunicator (911 Dispatcher)

Responsible for receiving, processing, and managing time-life critical emergency, non-emergency, dispatch calls for service and administrative calls for service; operating the 911 console; receiving, routing, and dispersing telephone calls/messages; and providing assistance to the public/agency employees/other county personnel. Duties also include completing assignments/special projects, as directed; completing, updating, and submitting required reports/documents/forms; and maintaining control of and following up on incoming correspondence/action documents. Familiarity with routine office procedures. Ability to communicate and enunciate clearly. Ability to work well during stressful situations. Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to sit for long periods of time. Works rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum qualifications:

High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
Typing 25 wpm.
Ability to multitask.
Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential and professional manner.
Performs effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
No previous experience is required. Prior switchboard or radio experience is helpful.
Certifications are not required for hire. All training will be provided.

Training will begin at the call-taking position. Prior experience and certification may considerably limit the time required in training.
