The Vice President of Membership will play a crucial role in driving the growth and retention of Girl Scouts members across the organization. This executive leader will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive membership strategy that aligns with our mission to engage more girls and adult volunteers in Girl Scouts programs. The VP of Membership will work collaboratively with staff, regional teams, stakeholders, and the national office to cultivate strong, lasting relationships with members, foster a deep sense of community, and ensure sustainable growth for the Girl Scouts.

Key Responsibilities:
Membership Strategy Development & Execution:
- Lead the creation and implementation of a state-wide membership growth strategy, ensuring alignment with GSME's long-term goals and mission.
- Analyze membership trends, data, and demographics to drive targeted recruitment efforts, improving both girl and adult volunteer membership numbers.
- Continuously evaluate and refine the membership program to ensure it remains relevant, inclusive, and appealing to diverse communities.
Membership Retention & Engagement:
- Develop and implement strategies to engage and retain current members, emphasizing our innovative programming, training, enhanced member experiences, and personalized support.
- Work closely with regional teams to ensure local needs and regional opportunities are addressed effectively in membership programs.
- Lead the development of member loyalty and engagement initiatives to enhance the long-term retention of both girls and volunteers.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team focused on membership growth, engagement, and support.
- Collaborate with other departments (such as Marketing, Fundraising, and Program) to ensure seamless communication and alignment of membership strategies with other organizational priorities.
- Serve as an executive spokesperson on matters related to membership, representing GSME in internal and external forums.,
Data-Driven Decision Making:
- Leverage data and analytics to monitor the effectiveness of membership initiatives, using insights to drive continuous improvement.
- Develop comprehensive reports and presentations for senior leadership and board members on membership performance, trends, and strategic opportunities.
- Lead the development, implementation, and management of the departmental budget to ensure efficient resource allocation and alignment with strategic priorities.
Partnerships & Community Outreach:
- Build strong relationships with external partners, including schools, community organizations, businesses, and other youth organizations to increase the visibility and appeal of Girl Scouts membership.
- Advocate for the Girl Scouts brand and mission, fostering a positive public image through strategic outreach and awareness campaigns.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience (10 years) in a senior leadership role with responsibility for membership growth, community engagement, sales, and/or marketing, ideally within a non-profit or youth-focused organization.
- Strong understanding of membership recruitment and retention strategies, with a demonstrated ability to drive significant growth in diverse communities.
- Exceptional leadership skills, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- Ability to think strategically while executing tactically to achieve long-term membership goals.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire both internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience with data analysis and using insights to guide decisions and improve programs.
- Passion for the mission of Girl Scouts and a deep understanding of the needs and challenges facing girls and volunteers today.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a youth development or membership-based organization, preferably in the non-profit sector.
- Familiarity with digital membership platforms and tools for community engagement and data management.
- Strong background in partnership development
