About Global Game Changers School Empowerment Zone Program
Global Game Changers Student Empowerment Program is an evidence-based social, emotional, leadership learning program. Our curriculum promotes growth in four areas: expanding social-emotional skills, developing power skills like leadership and character, cultivating empowered and engaged young citizens motivated to change the world, and supporting academic development that leads to a successful and happy life.
Global Game Changers believes in developing the Whole Child (well-rounded 21st century learners). Our approach utilizes a strength-based learning that encourages teachers to differentiate the gifts of each individual student and improves his/her engagement in the learning process. With a motto to IGNITE GOOD! and using service learning as a tool, the GGC curriculum was developed to allow students to succeed emotionally, socially, academically, physically, and civically, thereby building 21st century skills and empowering them to discover their unique superpowers to make a difference in the world. The lessons use a simple equation: MY TALENT MY HEART= MY SUPERPOWER to lay the foundation for nurturing engaged and successful citizens; helping them to overcome apathy and feel empathy.
The School Empowerment Zone (SEZ) is a revolutionary partnership provides schools with the tools to make a dramatic impact on their students and families.
A School Empowerment Zone is a collaboration between GGC, a committed JCPS AIS school partner, and significant external community organizations who band together under one comprehensive framework to develop and support a sustainable school-based community where the school is the nucleus of the program. The goal is to make revolutionary and measured difference in the lives of the students we serve using the GGC SEL umbrella for an implementation that includes in-school, out-of-school and family support based on the specific needs of each individual school. SEZ is an integrated approach to education that nurtures a positive climate and culture and embeds it into the school community where it can grow and flourish beyond through students who are socially, emotionally and academically prepared to excel beyond elementary school.
This program, supported by an AmeriCorps grant administered by ServeKY, utilizes the Global Game Changers curriculum, core JCPS TITLE I school partners and integrates intentionally activities, fieldtrips, presentations by guest speakers, and opportunities for service to promote in-depth explorations into philanthropic causes, personal and academic growth, social skills, and emotion and behavior regulation for high needs elementary schools. Our ServeKY members support our program goals in numerous roles in front of and behind the scenes to help GGC successfully and positively impact the students we serve.
