Glosten is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Payroll Accountant to join our team. This role is responsible for managing payroll processing, benefits reconciliation, and tax reporting for the company and its subsidiaries, ensuring timely and accurate payments to employees and compliance with all applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience with payroll, accounts payable, tax reconciliations, and be comfortable managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced multi-company environment. The Payroll Accountant will collaborate closely with the HR and Accounting departments to support bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees, including hourly and salaried staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Maintain payroll records, including adjustments, time-off balances, bonuses, and deductions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws. To include establishing corporate payroll presence in new states or municipalities.
- Oversee payroll provider payroll tax filings, including quarterly and annual reports (941, 940, W‑2s, etc.).
- Support month-end close by preparing payroll-related journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, annual business tax filings and related payments for multiple state and local agencies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries.
- Work closely with HR to manage employee benefit deductions and track employee time-off accruals.
- Perform monthly bank account reconciliations.
- Manage weekly vendor payments process in close collaboration with core accounting team to include annual preparation and submission of form 1099.
- Partner with external and internal resources to support annual workers compensation and 401k audits.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll and personal data.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in payroll operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- 4 years of experience in payroll accounting, payroll administration, or similar roles.
- Strong understanding of payroll processes and knowledge of tax regulations (federal, state, and local).
- Experience using payroll software and accounting systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal departments and employees.
- This position will be hybrid and expected to work from the Seattle office 3 days a week.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ADP and Deltek VantagePoint.
