The Maintenance Team Lead assists the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor on a daily basis providing feedback, coaching and motivating team members to meet short- and long-term goals. This team member helps oversee day to day operations, provides leadership in the absence of the Manager/Supervisor and ensures that all tasks performed are following safety guidelines while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the company.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary job duties and responsibilities include:
- Performs preventative maintenance, repairing, installing of processing and packaging equipment, systems and utilities.
- Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by creating work orders for any unplanned work needing to be performed such as breakdown calls, including rebuilding gearboxes, and other projects.
- Communicate with other departments and shifts as needed to complete tasks including calling contractors and specialized tech. support.
- Coordinate with Sanitation and production to schedule repair, PM work, and other maintenance related tasks as needed.
- Follow up with team members on upcoming or overdue work orders to ensure timely completion, determining if tasks need to be added to the PM program, software system and schedule.
- Send out notes at the end of shift to keep team members informed including issues during shift, solutions found or a plan to solve the problem.
- Active participant of the Corporate Safety Committee and attends monthly meetings.
- Follow all applicable Safety and Health policies and practices and informs immediate supervisor about unsafe or unhealthy conditions observed in the workplace.
- Consult with immediate supervisor concerning issues, unusual problems or developments and clarification on direction and scope of efforts.
- Responsible to oversee all equipment inspection, maintenance and repair requirements.
- Provide technical assistance for new machinery and adapting existing processes.
- Conduct ongoing preventative visual inspections of machinery and load-handling equipment and provide all scheduled/non-scheduled maintenance and repair as required.
- Provide on-call repair service for machinery.
- Order and keep track on machine parts as necessary.
- Provide all mechanical/technical applications to adapt and install new production equipment for operations; includes pre-consideration of electrical, computer, layout and mechanical applications.
- Read, study and review manuals and relevant literature to stay current on new equipment and the updating of existing equipment.
- Complete preventative maintenance reports and other documents to communicate status of equipment and action required for effective operation of production equipment.
- Assist with building and leading team members in general maintenance and up-keeping of building grounds and machinery equipment.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job include:
- High School or GED equivalent or 1-3-month related experience in manufacturing environment and/or training/education.
- Able to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and work with the maintenance computer system for work orders.
- Mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulics skills are required.
- Fabrication skills, including machining and welding with TIG/MIG are a plus.
- Basic computer and math skills.
- Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Mpulse experience.
- Ability to interact effectively with technicians, supervisors and members of other trades and plant employees.
- Able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.
- Able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to heavy machinery and other environmental hazards in both indoor and outdoor.
- Know how to change bearings, sprockets, chains, seals, gaskets, inspection of production equipment and some building equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and repair a wide variety of equipment based on industrial process controls, PLC’s, in process equipment.
- Has an understanding of HACCP along with Company SOPs and GMPs.
- Understands and Successfully accomplishes task/responsibilities from Level 1-3. Is able to show and teach team members skills and processes from gained knowledge and experiences.
Working Conditions
Exposure to plant environment that is wet, very humid and undergoes temperature changes, from hot to cold. Fast-paced environment working around heavy meat processing equipment. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform extensive walking and standing throughout the shift daily.
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Ability to perform physical activities such as bending, standing, climbing, crouching, stooping, kneeling.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms and use sense of smell to help diagnose and repair equipment/machinery.
- Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment, up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Moderate hand/wrist flexion and gripping pressure.
