Job Summary
The Medication Assistant role is responsible for providing resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents. This includes assisting with basic health care needs, administering medications, and completing tasks related to food preparation and dining.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and obtaining and recording vital signs.
- Provide psycho-social support and other personal care to assigned residents.
- Transfer, re-position, and walk residents using correct and appropriate transfer techniques and equipment.
- Administer prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and within their scope of practice as defined by state regulations.
- Document outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and dietary.
Requirements
A high school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) is preferred but not required. Minimum age of 18 is preferred, and prior clinical or nursing assistant experience is also desirable.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing is required in some states.
- Completion of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course is necessary once CNA certification is obtained.
