The Patient Accounts Representative is responsible for ensuring all daily billing functions for the hospital and clinic are completed efficiently. Employee organizes inpatient and outpatient claims for electronic or
hard copy submission to appropriate third-party payers. Employee reviews claim to make sure that payer specific billing requirements are met, follows up on billing, determines and applies appropriate adjustments,
answers inquiries, and updates accounts as necessary.
Responsibilities :
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Employee performs all daily billing functions for hospital and clinic accounts by reviewing and correcting claims through claim work queues and claim validation software.
- Provides courteous and professional customer service by assisting with patient inquiries in person or via phone to maintain a positive customer experience.
- Reviews past due follow-up accounts, contacts insurance for payment resolution.
- Employee reviews work queue deficiencies to identify errors. Takes necessary corrective actions such as contacting insurance, appealing with insurance, correcting claims, and initiating account review.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the healthcare revenue cycle.
- Identifies and resolves overpayments on accounts that may result in refunds
- Collects patient demographic and insurance information then accurately keys this information into the electronic patient record systems.
- Correctly schedules and / or cancels and / or reschedules all patient appointments for medical services.
- Completes patient pre-registration, verifying insurance coverage, referral and medical record information is available in chart at time of appointment, provides verbal patient liability estimate and reminder of scheduled appointments as needed.
- Correctly takes messages either by phone, ensuring all necessary information is gathered and documented following departmental guidelines. Also ensures that the messages are delivered in a timely manner.
- Scans in patient insurance benefit, patient liability estimate, and authorization information into electronic health record daily.
- Provides courteous and professional customer service via phone (within 3 rings), assisting patients and providers as needed.
