Purpose or General Objective: To assist the agency’s Charlotte Plant Manager & Retail Operations Manager by supervising the day to day operations of the Charlotte Plant; which includes Processing, Storage & Sale of Salvage Goods, Transportation and ShopGoodwill.
Essential Duties:
- Continually serve as a positive role model for all employees, participants and customers working with and for Goodwill Industries of Central Michigan’s Heartland.
- Maintain departmental and customer service standards while informing Charlotte Plant Manager and or Retail Operations Manager of problems and opportunities.

Organize and maintain a record keeping system for all Plant activities, including but not limited to:
- Storage and rotation of all merchandise (unsorted, sorted, wares, salvage etc…)
- Collection weights
- Truck maintenance
- Truck mileage & inspection reports
- Assist with the collection, storage and sale of salvage material
- Help develop and maintain a strong stable salvage market
- Help develop and maintain an efficient schedule for collection
- Hiring and direction of staff as needed
- Ensure new hire paperwork is filled out correctly and submitted in a timely manner to Human Resources
- Write and deliver associates performance appraisals
- Effectively train all associates or participants to properly perform in designated area.
- Scheduling
- Corrective Actions as necessary
- Train and monitor employees to ensure that all safety procedures and policies are followed.
- Prepare management reports on a daily/weekly/monthly basis as required by senior management and forwarded to corporate headquarters
- Assist in opening, closing and security of the Plant, vehicles, keys and other GICMH property

Maintain Plant equipment in working order for safety. Maintain clean, clear aisles and exit doors.
- Document repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Participate with all other departments with respect to budget, employee relations and participant training.
- Maintain adequate supplies of all materials needed for production and receipt of donations.

Must be able to:
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to attend all scheduled meetings or training as assigned by senior staff
- Responsible for periodic inventory, as scheduled
- Ability to work productively without close supervision
- Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with all employees, participants and customers
- Implement proper controls and guidelines to ensure maximum output and distribution from the Charlotte Plant
- Other duties as assigned by Charlotte Plant Manager, Retail Operations Manager or senior staff.
Additional Duties:
- Maintain a safe environment for all employees, participants and customers.
- Cashier, assist customers, process, clean and perform other non-managerial functions on a daily basis.
- Other duties as assigned by District Manager or Sr. Vice President of Retail Sales/Donated Goods.
- Ensure consistent use of, and maintenance of all company provided resources.
- Become an integral member of the store management team
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to reach, bend, twist and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Skills Required:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to use a spreadsheet and word processing software
- Strong organizational, computer and communications (written and verbal) skills required
- Ability to communicate with diverse populations and varying levels of staff (general labor to executive)
- Have the ability to carry, push, pull, otherwise move, and organize merchandise on a regular basis. May involve use of a pallet jack.
- Ability to obtain valid forklift license.
- Ability to train staff on forklift.
Other Requirements:
- Must have reliable transportation.
Work Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of three (3) years supervision
- Shipping and Receiving experience
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
We are searching for someone dependable to join our team. As Assistant Plant Manager, you will supervise the day to day operations of the Charlotte Plant which includes processing, storage & sale of salvage goods, transportation and ShopGoodwill.
We collect everything from furniture to clothing so you will be handling a wide variety of items every day, big and small, and need to be able to help move the donations and sort them throughout the work day. Helping the community to get good finds for a great cost and funding our programming to put people to work in at the same time.
