About the Position. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Oversee accounts receivable (A/R) and accounts payable (A/P) functions, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Manage payroll processing, reporting, and quarterly tax filings in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Perform general ledger reconciliations and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Handle monthly and sales tax filings, maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Prepare and file annual W-2s, 1099s, and 1094C/1095C forms.
- Conduct bank account reconciliations and process payments utilizing check scanners.
- Collaborate with project managers and the Assistant Controller to manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
- Analyze cash flow to optimize financial stability and forecasting.
- Monitor overhead costs and budget tracking to support financial planning.
- Assist in contract administration, including the preparation and review of owner agreements.
- Evaluate financials from vendors and subcontractors to ensure proper prequalification.
- Prepare financial schedules and coordinate with external auditors.
- Manage employee expense reporting and reimbursement processing.
- Oversee employee onboarding, 401(k) administration, and benefits enrollment via online portals.
- Ensure timely renewal of annual business licenses and regulatory filings.
- Supervise vehicle registrations and fleet/equipment management.
- Coordinate general liability (GL) and workers' compensation (WC) insurance audits.
- Lead monthly and annual financial closeout processes.
- Prepare all required financial documentation for CPA-reviewed financial statements.
What you need. To be a hero in this role, the Controller will have:
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience within the general contracting or construction industry.
- Proven leadership experience in managing and developing an accounting team.
- Expertise in Sage 300 CRE and QuickBooks, with the ability to optimize financial processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clear and effective collaboration.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy in financial reporting.
- Highly organized with proficiency in document and electronic file management.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to support financial decision-making.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in business and strategic planning to support company growth initiatives.
- Passion for mentoring and training team members on general accounting best practices.
- Collaborative mindset with a desire to partner with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Experience in implementing or transitioning accounting software systems.
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Familiarity with IT coordination is preferred but not required; will oversee third-party IT vendors.
