Location: Greenville, South Carolina (preferred) or DFW/Austin, TX
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller leads the accounting function providing accurate and timely data, protecting company assets and balancing control with optimal business outcomes. Responsibilities
Operations & Compliance:
- Motivate, mentor, and lead by example a partially in-person, partial remote team, maximizing individual and team strengths, developing talent where needed and ensuring cross-training
- Streamline and fortify the order management-to-cash cycle, partnering with Systems Team, Sales, Account Management, and legal support
- Assist in integrating acquired entities (M&A support), including purchase price allocation, earnouts, accounting transition, compliance and tax-related items
- Supervise the compensation (payroll, T&E, and commissions) function
- Support specialist firms in the areas of direct (income tax) and indirect taxes (state sales tax)
- Ensure consistent written accounting policies, practices, and procedures are in place
- Establish and maintain internal controls over financial reporting and business operations with a focus on continual improvement
- Automate and optimize processes, leveraging technology to streamline and de-risk
- Ensure compliance and governance safeguards are in place (Insurance coverage, risk management, D&O, proper registrations)
- Establish, monitor and improve department KPIs
- Investigate, recommend, and administer process and system optimization opportunities within the critical cycles (order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, g/l reporting, and compensation)
- Streamline collections cycle (high volume billing)
Reporting and General Ledger:
- Direct monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes to deliver accurate financials by day five
- Giving context to variances and drivers (P&L, BS, Product margins, MRR/ARR rollforwards, contribution margins) in support of CODM and Board packages
- Ensure that the audited financials are free from misstatement, applying US GAAP to ensure adequacy of accounting treatment and disclosure
- Investigate and implement US GAAP accounting policies as applicable (e.g. revenue recognition, capitalized labor, deferred costs, purchasing accounting, stock compensation)
- Partner with FP&A team by participating in the annual budget process and interim forecasts (e.g. 3 9, 6 6), providing inputs to the monthly investor and lender packages
- Maintain the day-to-day treasury relationship (bank accounts and loans), report on cash flow actuals and short-term forecasts to CFO
- Partner with IT/Business Systems to administrate, educate, and implement module upgrades for the company’s ERP tool
Required skills to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA), Finance or Accounting
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
- 10 years total accounting experience with increased management responsibilities, with preference given to those with National CPA firm Audit background
- M&A lifecycle experience (diligence, transaction, integration) including post-transaction NWC and Escrows
- Software/SaaS experience highly desired, high volume billing a plus
- Process optimization and automation experience, leveraging technology tools to drive continuous improvement
- Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP and experience running an audit
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems and their interplay with other business systems (CRM, payroll, Accounts Payable, billing, etc). Experience with Intacct or Netsuite preferred, and implementation/reimplementation experience a plus

- Strategic thinking and project management skills with a proven track record of taking initiative, setting priorities and ensuring execution
- Excellent communication, writing, and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with all levels within the organization
- Proficient in general Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint); Microsoft Access a plus
- Comfortable working in a high-growth, hands-on environment (revenue range $50M to $200M)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills
