Position Summary
The Seasonal Marina Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing daily operations at the marina during the season usually defined as April 15 through September 30. This working supervisor leads a small team while actively participating in marina tasks, ensuring smooth operations and exceptional customer service. directs the staff and day to day operations associated with the municipal marina.
Position Description
Essential Functions
The Marina Supervisor will assure the City objectives are accomplished through the compliance of rules, regulations and policies as set forth by the Code of Ordinance for the City of Grand Haven, the Department of Natural Resources, the Waterways Commission and the Waterfront and Events Manager.
Essential Job Functions:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
1. Supervises staff and activities within the Municipal Marina. Executes Marina and Waterfront goals and policies regarding customer interactions and facilities standards.
2. Lead seasonal staff, providing training, scheduling, and performance feedback.
3. Enforces departmental policies and procedures, ensuring the operation runs efficiently, maximizing the potential of the facilities and personnel in their key roles.
4. Coordinates marina operations to obtain optimum berth or property occupancy rates.
5. Maintains system and processes that effectively provide all customers, tenants and guests with the highest level of professionalism and customer service.
6. Ensures all property and assets are maintained, monitored and presented in a manner that is in keeping with the standards established by the City of Grand Haven. Meets established standards for all operations.
7. Other duties may be assigned.

- Experience in marina operations, boating, or waterfront management preferred.
- Leadership or supervisory experience, with the ability to work alongside and guide staff.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and perform labor-intensive tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in order to maintain records and prepare reports; interpret and communicate the policies of the City, the Department of Natural Resources and the Waterways Commission to employees and to the public; and to deal tactfully and diplomatically with the general public and governmental agencies regarding relevant codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
- A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.
- Knowledge of the public management approaches and techniques involved in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, City officials, civic organizations, and the public.
- Ability to work days, night, weekends and holidays.
