About the Company: Granite Hills Group (GHG) is the recently re-branded landscaping company formed by the merger of several family-owned landscaping companies based in Charlotte, NC, Raleigh-Durham, NC and Greenville-Spartanburg, SC. This partnership is the platform from which GHG will become the dominant commercial landscape company in the Carolinas while retaining the culture of a family-owned business. Each branch has a landscape construction division and maintenance division and as such provides turnkey landscaping services from project groundbreaking through ongoing maintenance
Summary: We are seeking a Landscape Construction Estimator with a strong background in commercial landscape estimating to help us grow our firm. The ideal candidate will have excellent numerical skills and an analytical mindset to perform landscape construction takeoffs and build professional estimates accurately. The estimator must be a flexible and adaptable team-player, as well as have strong communication and client service skills. This is an in-person position
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage estimating workflow and pipeline to provide complete proposals before bid deadlines
- Review RFP’s, plans, addendums, and specs to determine the scope of work and the most effective production methods
- Assist customers with technical information and pricing before and during construction
- Prospect and develop relationships with key GC and developer decision-makers within the Company’s region.
- Obtain qualified subcontractor quotes for each scope of work and review scope and final bids with each sub
- Solicit written quotes for hard materials, plant materials, and any other items needed to complete the total direct cost estimate for the job
- Travel to jobsites to observe current conditions, job progress and attend required meetings.
- Complete plan take-off and enter the bid and estimate data in industry-specific software program
- Assign, recommend, and/or propose gross profit margins based on current pricing guidelines
- Prepare bid summaries for each estimate and review them with division management and senior leadership as part of the job handoff process.
- Participate in pre-job and post-job meetings
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Extensive understanding of landscape installation and construction methods
- Basic knowledge of plant material and best horticultural practices
- Ability to read and understand plans and specifications
- Ability to build strong relationships with prospects, customers, subcontractors, vendors, and team members
- Ability to project a professional image and a positive attitude in all situations
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and Aspire
- Basic understanding of business math, accounting, and financial reporting
- Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Construction Management, Horticulture, Business, or any other applicable major not required but strongly desired.
