Nutrition/Cook Advocate
Job Type: 35 Hours per week; $14.75 per hour, Grant Funded
Job Location: In person, Sheridan, Arkansas
The successful candidate must be a keen collaborator, proficient at working closely with a diverse group of colleagues and program participants to complete required tasks and training for a successful program outcome. This person will be flexible and results-oriented to confidently and positively affect the multiple stakeholders of our organization. This position must abide by strict confidentiality policies that protect our community patrons. Discrimination against any person will not be tolerated. The nutrition/cook advocate will report to the Shelter Director of the GCUCRC non-profit organization.
Examples of job tasks:
1. Prepare weekly grocery list and complete shopping.
2. Prepare menus and meals from food items readily available.
3. Aid and support clients by teaching them how to plan, shop for, and prepare meals.
4. Practice and teach food safety, personal hygiene in the kitchen, and nutrition for adults and children.
5. Complete required training and certifications required for employment with the GCUCRC, Inc.
6. Client Advocate duties
· Answer the 24-hour crisis hotline and document each call.
· Facilitate intake interviews and procedures for new clients.
· Drive clients to appointments or work.
· Meet new clients at the safe location.
· Complete daily shift chores.
7. Any other duties as assigned by the shelter director or the Executive Director of the GCUCRC, Inc.
A reference and criminal background check will be conducted on each applicant who successfully completes an interview. You will also be required to provide your driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance as a condition of employment. A vehicle will be provided any time you are needed to drive for the organization.
Required Job Specific Training:
· Shadow and receive training from the director or other experienced and qualified advocates for up to 5 shifts.
· Online ethics training through the Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center (OVCTTAC) must be completed on-site during the second day of shadowing and is a prerequisite for continued employment as an advocate.
· Eight (8) online classes provided by the Arkansas Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ACASA) for certification.
· Must complete Diploma in Food safety (30 hours) from Alison.
· Food Safety Training – Safe Practices and Procedures (2 hours) from Alison.
Probation period: 90 days
Schedule:
- Typical workweek will be Monday through Friday with possibility for weekend work as needed.
- 35 hours per week, however hours dependent on client caseload and contingent upon the availability of funding. Funding has been awarded for the Fiscal Year 2024, September 1, 2023 through August 31, 2024.
