The GREAT BASIN INSTITUTE is seeking a Conservation Wildlife Biologist to support conservation efforts in the southern Sierra Nevada region. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to GBI's significant positive impacts within the fields of environmental research, education, and conservation.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct wildlife surveys using standard field methods, focusing on species such as California Spotted-Owl, Northern Goshawk, Pacific Fisher, or Sierra Nevada Yellow-Legged Frog.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop post-fire survey and monitoring efforts for wildlife in parks and forest areas.
- Assist in data collection, inventory, assessment, and monitoring protocols, including GPS navigation and map reading.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field, or three years of wildlife fieldwork experience.
- Experience in conducting wildlife surveys, preferred experience with owl, goshawk, fisher, or frog surveys.
- Ability to work variable schedules, possibly including weekends, nights, and holidays, in remote areas with overnight camping.
