What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wildlife Conservation Specialist position at GREAT BASIN INSTITUTE?
The Great Basin Institute is seeking a skilled Wildlife Technician to support conservation, management, and restoration of natural resources in the Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park. The ideal candidate will have experience in conducting wildlife surveys, data collection, and habitat characterization.
This is a temporary position that will begin in mid-May and end as late as mid-November, with the possibility of working weekends and nights. The technician will work collaboratively with other NPS staff, researchers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop survey and monitoring efforts for wildlife in the parks.
- The selected candidate will conduct non-invasive surveys for forest wildlife, including California Spotted-Owl, Northern Goshawk, Pacific Fisher, and Sierra Nevada Yellow-Legged Frog.
- They will collect and compile location and sample data from various species according to established protocols.
- Additionally, they will work on developing post-fire and pre-treatment survey and monitoring efforts for wildlife in the parks.
