The GREAT BASIN INSTITUTE is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Wildlife Conservation Technician to support conservation efforts in the southern Sierra Nevada region. This exciting role contributes to GBI's significant positive impacts within the fields of environmental research, education, and conservation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct wildlife surveys using standard field methods, focusing on species such as California Spotted-Owl, Northern Goshawk, Pacific Fisher, or Sierra Nevada Yellow-Legged Frog.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop post-fire survey and monitoring efforts for wildlife in parks and forest areas.
- Assist in data collection, inventory, assessment, and monitoring protocols, including GPS navigation and map reading.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field, or three years of wildlife fieldwork experience.
- Experience in conducting wildlife surveys, preferred experience with owl, goshawk, fisher, or frog surveys.
- Ability to work variable schedules, possibly including weekends, nights, and holidays, in remote areas with overnight camping.
