Shipping Manager – Salina, KS
Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking an experienced Shipping Manager to join our team in Salina, KS.
The Shipping Manager will be responsible for outbound wholegoods for both Land Pride and Great Plains Ag with an emphasis on efficiency and timeliness. This position will manage a team of shipping coordinators; ability to manage and team and work well with various departments is a must.
This position typically works Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is based at the corporate office in Salina.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Study shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping schedules.
- Oversee outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
- Manage and schedule shipping of products.
- Determine space requirements and schedule loads accordingly.
- Compile records of unfilled orders.
- Prepare bills of lading.
- Issue written and oral instructions to parties involved with scheduling, loading, and shipping loads.
- Monitor/change working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shipping department.
- Work with logistics companies to insure best rates for outbound LTL freight.
- Develop or revise standard operational procedures for the department and ensures compliance with the policy.
- Initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, or disciplinary measures for those under their supervision.
- Resolve worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to the Marketing Manager and/or Human Resources for action.
- Compile, store, and retrieve production data, using computer.
- Interface with other departments to ensure deadlines are met.
- Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
- Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in shipping and material handling; management or supervisory experience preferred.
- Mechanical or Assembly background helpful
- Goal-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate a variety of forklift equipment
- Working knowledge of AS400 software to locate and analyze product structure and parts availability
