What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank?
As part of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank team, the Accountant, under the guidance of the Controller, is responsible for assisting in the general financial operations and functions of the Food Bank.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure a 3-way match is met when processing invoices into the accounting system.
- Scan and upload invoices to the billing record in NetSuite.
- Prepare manual and electronic vendor payments.
- Maintain accounts payable (vendors A-M) by obtaining W-9s for all new vendors, entering them into the accounting system and ensuring all vendor accounts are accurate at all times.
- Research all electronic bank deposits and submit, when necessary, to development for entry, then reconcile in NetSuite. This includes FRU.
- Reconcile accounting software to donor tracking system monthly.
- Compile and submit monthly reporting for LFPA and USDA.
- Complete the FTE calculation report monthly.
- Assist in audit preparation by providing samples to management upon request.
- Ensure vendor bill variances are journalized weekly.
- Submit the outstanding purchase order report (vendors A-M) to management for review.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the accounting department, other departments and the mission of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in accounting or related field with 2 years of experience in the accounting function
- Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles, accounting terminology and internal controls.
- Knowledge of auditing practices and principles.
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel.
- Highly collaborative style with attention to detail.
- Comfortable in an environment where multi-tasking and time management is necessary for success; capable of working under pressure and willing to work with deadlines.
- Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all departments.
- Self-starter and able to work independently; enjoy creating and implementing new initiatives.
