About the Role :

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the  Development Manager  is responsible for driving the organization’s fundraising initiatives, managing donor relationships and securing financial resources to support the organization’s mission and programs. The Development manager will be responsible for building the development function of the organization.

Schedule : Hybrid up to 2 days remote. Monday to Friday, weekends as needed.

Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following :

Fundraising Strategy and Execution

  • Actively work with the Executive Director to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, government grants, etc.
  • Responsible for researching funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position GSDC ahead of major funding changes or trends.
  • Manage capital campaigns, engaging and overseeing capital campaign firms as necessary.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors to build a robust donor pipeline.

Donor Relations and Stewardship

  • Develop and maintain key long-term relationships with donors and prospects
  • Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors
  • Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to board and senior leaders
  • Manage donor databases and ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Grant Writing and Management

  • Manage grant strategy including but not limited to decision matrix, writing, submitting, and overseeing grant compliance.
  • Responsibility for development and execution of all proposals; write and archive all proposals with a long-term relationship management approach
  • Manage the grant application process, including tracking deadlines, coordinating with program staff and ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
  • Event Planning and Management

  • Develop and oversee event strategy.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute fundraising events, campaigns and initiatives to engage donors and raise funds.
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure successful event execution, including logistics, marketing and donor cultivation.
  • Evaluate the success of events and identify areas of improvement.
  • Marketing Management

  • Manage marketing consultants to ensure effective promotion of the organization’s initiatives and events.
  • Develop and execute effective donor communication and marketing materials.
  • Development Department

  • Establish and develop the organization's development department.
  • Implement best practices and innovative approaches to enhance the department's effectiveness.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • GSDC Event Mgmt Support

  • Contribute to all organizational events, helping as necessary with set up / take down, management, networking, various tasks, etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all work performed is in compliance with the company’s mission, vision and values. This includes participation in company events and other community-facing activities as required.

  • About You

    To be successful in this role, you will need :

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or relevant field or 3-4 years of equivalent work experience is required
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Initiative to deepen current and future donor relationships.
  • Experience with event management, including planning, execution, and post-event analysis.
  • Proficiency in using Salesforce, Constant Contact or similar tools for outreach and engagement.
  • Superb interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and cultivate strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization.
  • Able to effectively organize and present information in group settings, both formal and informal.
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience working with computers, including word processing and data entry programs; spreadsheet experience and client management software is a plus.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively. Self-starter.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Comfortable with community-based work (visiting business owners onsite, attending meetings / functions, etc) and office / administrative work.
  • Must be sensitive to the diverse community needs and be able to engage with diverse populations, while using excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Prolong periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Position requires travel between locations of the organization, business sites and or events.
  • Variable outdoor exposure to noise, weather, and elements.
  • Constant interactions with the public and employees.
  • Flexible working hours : some evening and weekend availability required.
