Job Description
The Director of Purchasing plays a pivotal role in the Greenfield Fire District, overseeing all purchasing, inventory, and material needs for the district. This annually appointed position is responsible for ensuring that the district has the necessary supplies and equipment to operate effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages all Requests for Proposals (RFPs) related to various services such as sealcoating, heating oil, and propane.
- Procures and delivers essential supplies, including water and soap, to four fire stations within the district.
- Coordinates annual inspections and maintenance activities with the District Chief and Board of Fire Commissioners (BoFC).
- Arranges station maintenance, including alarm systems and IT services, with the Maintenance Employee.
- Monitors procurement budgets and reports any variances to the BoFC and Treasurer.
- Conducts inventory management, testing, and repairs of equipment, such as radios and personal protective equipment (PPE), using authorized software.
- Oversees the EMS supply system and firefighter fit testing, providing training as needed.
- Manages IT services and supports the I AM Responding system, offering training when required.
- Serves as the primary liaison between the district and vendors and contractors.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in MS Office, QuickBooks, or similar software applications.
- Familiarity with New York State Fire District laws.
- Associate's degree or 3 years of experience in procurement.
Requirements:
- Bondable, NYS driver's license, DMV/LENS enrollment, and district residency or willingness to reside outside the district.
Physical Demands: The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, navigating stairs, and working in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions: The job includes evening, weekend, and travel requirements.
