What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education and Outreach Coordinator position at Greenhouse Project?
The Greenhouse Project serves the Carson City community through its mission of “Growing, giving and teaching for a healthier, greener, sustainable community.” We achieve this by providing year-round fresh produce to local organizations who serve the food-insecure of our community. We also contribute to the learning opportunities of the Carson High School Agricultural Science students through hands-on, on-site education.
Position Summary: Coordinates regular delivery of produce to food banks and relief agencies, coordinates social media and community outreach, communicates with volunteers, coordinates volunteer events, and collaborates with Director of Programs, Operations Manager, and educators to support education of students and community members. Assists with needs relating to crop planning, production, and harvest as able and needed.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate Social Media, Community, and Volunteer Outreach
- Coordinate regular schedule of social media posts on Facebook, Instagram, etc.
- Support and help coordinate outreach activities through participation on the Greenhouse Project Action Group on a regular basis
- Participate in the rotation to work at the Carson Farmers Market on Saturdays during the summer, as needed
- Promote outreach for and schedule volunteers throughout the year and for events such as our annual Mother’s Day plant sale
Work with and Educate Students and Community Members
- Coordinate lessons and work days for high school students with high school educators
- Coordinate and provide tasks and duties for disabled and special needs students with special needs educators
- Write short newsletter articles on a periodic basis
- Lead field trips and tours for visiting youth groups
Support Production and Maintenance of Greenhouse and Gardens
- Assist with harvesting and processing of produce for donation
- Coordinate delivery of produce to various local hunger relief agencies
- Assist as needed with the care of herbs, vegetables, flowers, and fruit trees
- Assist with revenue generating activities such as plant sales, farmers markets, specialty crops for sale
- Assist the Director of Programs and Operations Manager with needs relating to crop planning, production, harvest and distribution
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to relate, interact, and empower people of all ages from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds
- Good communication and problem solving skills
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, including high heat, low humidity, high winds, and snow
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Physically able to do and serve as an example for farm related work
- Valid Driver’s License
- Complete required background and fingerprint check
- Competency with Word and Excel data entry and reporting
- Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs
- Experience with social media platforms
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with students (especially teenagers), volunteers, and/or special needs individuals
- Experience working on a diversified horticultural operation, preferably organic
- Knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices
- Ability to speak in front of large groups

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
