GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
In this challenging role, you will be supporting the UPB - Upward Bound department at Greenville Technical College. Duties may include any or all of the following.
Job Purpose:
Under the supervision of the TRIO Project Director, the Assistant Director assists with planning, organizing, and facilitating the delivery of student support, institutional services, and project evaluation to operate the Upward Bound Program. Frequently interacts with students, faculty, staff, and parents.
Job Functions:
1. Coordinates and facilitates all components of the Upward Bound Program. Directs the routine activities of the Upward Bound program and serves as the liaison between the TRIO Project Director, target high schools, the public, Greenville Technical College, and the Greenville County School District. Plans and organizes outreach activities and recruitment of potential Upward Bound participants.
2. Assists the TRIO Project Director in evaluating the academic needs of program participants, developing 9-12-grade level educational plans for the Upward Bound program, tracking student progress, and planning Saturday and summer academies; communicates and enforces program rules and expectations; develops, maintains, and uses complex databases for Annual Performance Reports, determining student eligibility and tracking retention and performance; and analyzes a variety of data, using multiple databases, to help measure program effectiveness and make a recommendation to the TRIO Project Director.
3. In conjunction with the TRIO Project Director, plans and delivers Upward Bound classes, workshops, and meetings for participants, parents, school partners, and other groups as needed; communicates regularly, written and verbal, with Upward Bound program students to ensure they meet program requirements. Uses a variety of modalities, including electronic and web-based, to facilitate ongoing updates, implements and organizes ongoing job training for employees of the Upward Bound program as well as trains and provides direction to all assigned temporary personnel; performs specialized computer duties, retrieves student data, prepares reports, word processing, spreadsheet functions, and student correspondence; performs other related duties as assigned.
4. Coordinates on and off-campus activities for the Upward Bound program, including field trips, guest speakers, and events. Participates in field trips and other extra-curricular activities as assigned; participates in staff meetings with the TRIO Project Director and provides updates on student progress.
5. Makes presentations at high school assemblies, college fairs, and special events regarding services offered by Upward Bound; provides information and resources to students concerning educational, personal, and career development, college planning, and financial aid.
6. Oversees the process of Upward Bound students enrolling in Dual Enrollment classes each semester; collaborates with the Director of Early College and the counselors at the target schools to enroll eligible Upward Bound students into Dual Enrollment courses; hosts a parent informational meeting about the Dual Enrollment program, its benefits, the process, and financial aid; establishing a cohort of Civitas to monitor Upward Bound Dual Enrollment students’ grades; prepare an annual report to the TRIO Project Director on the students’ status; provides a New Student Orientation for former Bridges to a Brighter Future students enrolled at GTC; secure presenters from Student Disabilities Services, Counseling Services, African American Male Scholars Initiative, Campus Life, Academic Coaching & Tutoring , the Writing Center, etc.; serves as a point of contact and resource for former Bridges students; monitors the student’s academic progress; compiles an annual performance report on the student’s status and provides it to the Director of Bridges.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor's degree and experience in student services programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Student Personnel Services, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership, or a related field from an accredited college/university, along with a minimum of three years of experience in Student Services programs with a demonstrated ability to develop student access and success initiatives; two years of supervisory experience in federal TRIO programs, along with experience in grant writing, data collection and analysis, report writing, public speaking, budget management, proposal composition, and visible and credible dedication to fostering diversity. Candidates with expertise in grant writing, fluency in multiple languages, and personal experience in overcoming obstacles akin to those faced by the project's students will be given preference.
