Job Description
We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Maintenance Supervisor for this location. The Maintenance Supervisor will work with site leadership to create a World Class maintenance program that will support manufacturing operations by incorporating maintenance best practices and instilling a culture of safety and continuous improvement for the maintenance team. The ideal candidate has at least ten years of experience in an organization of mid- to large-industrial/commercial operations with at least five years of direct supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
The Supervisor must be able to plan and execute work effectively, be well-organized, and be prepared for responsibility and decision making. He or she must be good at solving problems, working well with multiple clients, understanding the complexities of a client-contractor relationship, and supporting site safety programs with excellent results.
Particularly strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate with, manage, and motivate people at all levels, including sub-contractors, are required. The Supervisor will know how to efficiently coordinate a workforce working multiple shifts in such a way that each person is continuously active. He or she must be dedicated to personal development and must have a desire to help others to develop professionally and personally.
In terms of management, the Supervisor must be well-versed in setting objectives. He or she will oversee services including adherence to a strategic plan; hiring, training, and maintaining staff; working with department heads to resolve issues; and ensuring services provided support continuous cost containment practices.
Responsibilities
- Maintains safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures; supports the safety program for the department; and creates a safe culture to sustain safety standards for all maintenance technicians
- Establishes solid leadership and proficiency standards for all staff
- Develops the current maintenance group into a fully functional, World Class operating team
- Creates a reliability-focused environment that will reduce operating cost while improving overall equipment effectiveness and asset utilization
- Executes procedures for the department to follow to eliminate failures and supports specific measures to prevent repeated failures
- Coordinates and improves the ratio of proactive to reactive activities on a day-to-day basis
- Accounts for unscheduled equipment downtime while focusing the team input on meeting challenging production requirements
- Uses a computerized maintenance management system (SAP) to track and collect data and to create management reports as needed for planning and effectiveness evaluation
- Assumes direct leadership accountability and oversight of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and instrumentation crafts and of supervisory staff and supplementary third-party resources
- Leads a team and creates a culture that fully understands the value of determining the root cause of inefficiencies and has a relentless determination for process improvement
- Participates in review of overall plant performance measures
- Other duties may include managing parts and materials as required for maintenance operations
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering/maintenance discipline and at least 5 years of supervisory experience in heavy industry (preferably in maintenance) preferred; extensive experience, a proven history of high performance ratings, and other contributing factors may be considered in place of a degree
- Proven record of managing a safe working environment
- Strong organizational skills including 5S and shop housekeeping
- Professional communication and customer service skills
- Supervisory experience in workflow prioritization, critical equipment management, and employee relations
- Contractor and vendor coordination experience
- Knowledge of the following trades: electrical, electronics, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs - Siemens and Allen-Bradley preferred), fluid power, mechanical, HVAC, chillers, boilers, vessels, tanks, liquid distribution, Variable Frequency Drives, fabrication, welding (MIG, TIG, stick, gas cutting), facilities maintenance, and robotics
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other computer-based applications required; SAP Plant Maintenance Module experience preferred
- Experience leading and following Safety/Security Policies and Procedures
- Able to follow all Quality Assurance and Standard Operating Procedures and report and follow through on any deficiencies
- Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills with the ability to assemble materials required to provide effective, meeting-type presentations
- Work history indicating ownership of responsibilities and an excellent record of meeting commitments
- Able to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs and to lead others through change
- Able to speak candidly and provide constructive feedback
- Supply procurement, budget preparation, and scheduling knowledge required
- Strong team builder with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines
