Position SummaryThe Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and executing day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, job costing, payroll support, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with accounting standards and supporting the business with accurate, timely financial data for strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and internal policies.
- Perform full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Manage job costing and project billing in alignment with construction project budgets.
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly.
- Assist with payroll processing, including job-specific labor cost allocations.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, balance sheets, and profit & loss reports.
- Support budget development, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate tracking of costs and contract billings.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal tax reporting and filing deadlines.
- Assist in annual audit preparation and liaise with external auditors or accountants.
- Maintain vendor records, W-9 forms, and assist with 1099 reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in construction or related industry.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Desktop/Online, Sage, or Foundation).
- Strong knowledge of job costing and construction billing (AIA billing experience a plus).
- Understanding of GAAP and general accounting practices.
- High attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas).
- Experience working in a marine or heavy construction environment.
- Familiarity with lien waivers, retainage, and construction contracts.
- Experience with certified payroll and Davis-Bacon compliance (if applicable).
- Knowledge of local/state tax regulations and Florida business tax practices.
