What are the responsibilities and job description for the Histotechnologist position at Griffiths Prince & Associates Consulting?
We are seeking an experienced Histotechnologist to join our team on a contract basis at the VA. This role will involve a variety of histology duties, including the processing, preparation, and examination of tissue specimens to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Grossing tissue specimens, accessioning them into the computer system, embedding, cutting, staining, and cover-slipping tissue.
- Preparing special stains for tissue at the request of pathologists.
- Assisting pathologists in cutting surgical and frozen sections, and possibly autopsies.
- Using equipment, instruments, and techniques to process specimens, ensuring that the physiological integrity of the specimen is maintained.
- May serve as the backup morgue assistant, assisting pathologists during autopsies, including identification, setup, assistance, body closure, and cleanup.
- Ensuring accurate identification of patients and samples prior to collection, testing, or aliquoting, in adherence to safety protocols.
- Safeguarding both electronic and paper patient information.
- Independently testing, evaluating, documenting, and reporting on patient testing, including Quality Control (QC), identifying and resolving any issues related to collection, processing, testing, or reporting.
- Providing patient-centered care in a professional manner to avoid complaints from stakeholders and customers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Histology or a related field.
- At least three (3) years of recent Histology and Cytology experience.
- Technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the requirements of the role, including the ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
- Ability to provide documentation verifying ongoing competency, skills, certification, and/or licensure as requested by the Contracting Officer or Contracting Officer Representative (CO/COR).
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM (no nights, weekends, or holidays).
- Overtime may be required during the specified shifts, but on-call or standby duties will not be required.
