The Employment Services (ES) Specialist will provide basic labor exchange information to include self-service, staff assisted and mediated services, including Unemployment Insurance Work Test and Employment Services registration. The Employment Services Specialist will assist job seekers, including unemployment insurance claimants, while providing excellent customer service to all job seekers and employers. Responsible for coordination of daily activities and adherence to program policies and procedures.

DUTIES:

  • Greet job seekers and assist them in entering their profile and/or resume on Pure Michigan Talent Connect (PMTC).
  • Answer telephone inquiries about Employment Services.
  • Give technical assistance over the telephone to those clients who have Internet access off-site.
  • Provide mediated services to those customers having difficulty obtaining employment.
  • Process complaints from job seekers under the direction of Lead ES Specialist or ES Manager.
  • Understand and be familiar with all GST Michigan Works program features, benefits and outcomes and the services offered by our partner agencies and communicate these effectively to job seekers.
  • Responsible for keeping up-to-date information/data/records on the One-Stop Management Information System (OSMIS).
  • Coordinate with other GST Michigan Work’s staff to market activities and promote services and products.
  • Assess and refer participants to appropriate workshops in paid trainings to upgrade existing skills.
  • Refer job seekers, as appropriate, to programs and services within and outside GST Michigan Works, including veterans and persons with disabilities.
  • Enhance knowledge of career development, job search, employment and employability issues and technology skills.
  • Report non-compliance of clients receiving unemployment insurance.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement processes.
  • Responsible for relating and interacting with the public and co-workers in a positive way that results in cooperation and mutual respect.
  • Consistently provide a good example of appearance, work ethic and customer service to customers served.
  • Meet or exceed established Agency performance expectations.
  • Attend professional development activities, trainings, and seminars.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Associate degree is preferred, however experience within the field will be considered in lieu of degree. This experience may include work in the unemployment, employment and/or human services field. Preference to Spanish speaking individuals and/or those able to communicate using sign language.

EXPERIENCE:

Familiarity with technology, Microsoft Office Suite, and telecommunication hardware. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate in both oral and written form with prior experience in public speaking. Communication and organizational skills that contribute to a quality work environment and the ability to work as a team. Planning and time management skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, state and local agencies, and the general public. Ability to organize, prioritize and maintain confidentiality while providing patient, friendly and participant centered services. Knowledge of relevant human service programs and policies, resources and procedures.

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Pay: $19.66 per hour
