What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Gudel?

The Purpose of the Position:

This Assistant Controller is responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting operations in line with Group accounting manual, meeting month-end reporting deadlines and managing Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payables and Fixed Assets. This position is required to work closely with functional managers to provide insights regarding process improvements for all key business processes with an in-depth understanding of internal control systems. The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Director of Finance.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs and oversee all aspects of accounting activities for the company.
  • Manage General Ledger and conduct balance sheet accounts reconciliations accurately and timely.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and report monthly closing results into Tagetik accurately and timely.
  • Lead month-end, quarter end and year-end closing process and review all general journal entries to ensure accurate bookings.
  • Assist project controller for project invoicing upon job completion for revenue recognition.
  • Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedule at the end of each period and prepare personal property tax return for State of Michigan.
  • Assist Finance Director with quarterly forecast and annual budgeting process.
  • Lead company financial audits and prepare information as required for the audits, will be able to problem-solve the issues and findings during the audit.
  • Assist annual physical inventory event and create cycle count procedure with Supply Chain Management (SCM) team.
  • Assist Finance Director to establish and maintain internal control system by developing standard operating procedures and manage accounting operations.
  • Guide & assist other departments by clear communication of current Gudel accounting policy and procedures as necessary to strengthen internal control as well as maintain Gudel best practices.
  • Manage accounting compliance activities for the company and ensure accounting practices comply with US GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Required Education, Training & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college in accounting with 7 years of progressively responsible experience in public accounting within manufacturing industries.
  • Thorough knowledge of managerial accounting principles and procedures.
  • Experience with financial statements preparation and account reconciliations.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA is a must.

 

Preferred Education, Training & Experience:

  • MBA, CPA and / or CMA is highly valued.
  • Lean accounting practices preferred.
  • Accounting process automation experience a plus.

  • Ability to deliver at a high accuracy rate and pay close attention to details.

  • Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Advanced level in MS office products; specifically Excel and / or Access database.
  • Professional and positive approach, self-motivated, strong relationship building skills and team player.
