What are the responsibilities and job description for the TRAFFIC SAFETY COORDINATOR position at Harford County?
Review and approve school bus camera violations; prepare reports, authenticate traffic violations; prepare court dockets and testify in court; perform other duties as assigned.
- Coordinate and manage automated traffic enforcement efforts to include “AngelTrax” and MotoTrax software.
- Create monthly court dockets related to school bus camera violations: notify defendants of their respective trial dates by way of a letter mailed through the US postal service: communicate monthly docket information with the clerk of the district court: maintain and store case adjudication information for a predetermined retention period.
- Enforce the contract obligations of the County vendors to include “AngelTrax”.
- Review and manage statistical data related to violations.
- Review and approve school bus camera violations.
- Make referrals, and interact with outside agencies, MVA, and the District Court.
- Fulfill requests from the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office and other law enforcement agencies.
- Pick-up and sort incoming mail for the Traffic Unit.
- Process DUI folders for citations, ACRS and MV Storage forms.
- Answer and handle Traffic Unit telephone calls.
- Enter all handwritten citations, warnings & SEROs in OnCall citation database.
- Forward handwritten citations to District Court, Annapolis and SEROs to MSP ASED.
- Process voided handwritten & electronic citations.
- Maintain files for citations, warnings, SEROs and parking violations.
- Enter all parking citations in OnCall citation database and Adpics County system.
- Process all parking citation requests for court.
- Maintain records of assigned citation books for each Deputy.
- Provide additional review on all ACRS.
- Enter & upload all ACRS into OnCall accident module.
- Forward ACRS to Carfax and to the County (if necessary).
- Research stops, run statistics, reset passwords and update Agency promotions & transfers in DeltaPlus.
- Send MSP Help Desk tickets/requests
- Assist with tow truck renewal paperwork.
- Prepare accurate reports.
- Testify in Court proceedings.
- Attend Traffic Unit related meetings and participate on committees related to the program.
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with vendors, Agency, and County staff.
- Keep informed on current traffic-related laws and regulations by attending workshops and educational programs or reading specialized literature.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must possess a High School diploma or GED certificate.
- Must have experience with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Previous law enforcement experience and/or knowledge of the Maryland Transportation Article is preferred.
- Ability to act as a representative of the Sheriff’s Office in court proceedings.
- Ability to multi-task and move from one job task to another quickly and easily.
- Ability to make inferences and projections from written material, statistical data, and geographic information.
- Ability to establish priorities and organize workload effectively and efficiently to accommodate numerous deadlines.
- Ability to achieve NCIC CN2 Certification.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff; successfully communicate with other staff members, other law enforcement agencies, and members of the public; and work as a team.
- Ability to maintain a pleasant and productive working atmosphere.
- Ability to complete assignments under pressure.
- Ability to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook), and office machines.
- Ability to work independently, with little supervision, and make independent thoughtful decisions based on video, photo, and any other data available.
- Must be 18 years of age or older and a U.S. citizen with 10 years of verifiable U.S. residency.
- Must pass comprehensive background investigation and criminal record check; medical exam and drug/alcohol screening; polygraph exam.
- Must have a valid driver's license with no more than three (3) points.
- Must provide handwriting sample for review.
- Must appear before and receive a favorable recommendation from an Oral Interview Board.
- Must possess a history and exhibit the characteristics of honesty, reliability, integrity and good interpersonal skills. Any criminal conviction(s) and/or arrest(s) may be grounds for disqualification.
