What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer Program Assistant position at Harris County?
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with management of AgriLife program volunteers.
Provide assistance, schedule meetings, and collaborate with Horticulture agents on volunteer activities and programs.
Aid volunteers to assume increased roles as trainers and public educators.
Identify program needs, track programs, meet with volunteer program coordinators to assess program objectives and program’s educational goals.
Frequent communication with volunteers through email, telephone, and scheduled meetings.
Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit the right volunteers with the right skills.
Help to plan and facilitate volunteer classes and continuing education training.
Help to maintain an online volunteer signup system and volunteer hours reporting system. Aid to recertification and background checks.
Maintain program and activity records, calculate volunteer hours recorded, prepare spreadsheets using Excel.
Prepare support materials, confirm appointments, attend meetings, prepare reports, assist with annual planning, assist with programs and schedule volunteers.
Will provide educational programming and assistance with Cylinder Gardening, School Gardens, and Community Gardens
Liaise with volunteers and Agents for greenhouse, irrigation systems, and other demonstration garden facilities.
Identify areas for quality improvement related to education and volunteer management, suggest changes where appropriate.

Education and Experience:
Requires a B.S. in Education, Management, Horticulture or related field.
Requires experience in public or private education, public service, administrative, or management.
Requires intermediate to advanced word processing, spreadsheet, and database software experience.

Volunteer management training and experience preferred.
Supervisory, horticulture education or volunteer program involvement is preferred.

Hours:
Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
