POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounts Payable Clerk is responsible for performing complex clerical accounting work to assure the timely and accurate recording of the obligations of the company and their subsequent payment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives and reviews contracts, purchase orders, check requests and other related documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance with company policies and requirements.
  • Matches vendor invoices to supporting documentation and assigns classifications to general ledger and job cost accounts.
  • Monitors accumulated charges on contracts and blanket purchase orders to avoid over billing.
  • Assures compliance with sales tax requirements of various taxing authorities.
  • Accurately enters approved invoices into the appropriate accounting journals to assure timely payment.
  • Assures the timely and accurate filing and storage of records for safekeeping.
  • Interacts with vendors and internal contacts to resolve questions and/or problems to expedite payment.
  • Performs additional assignments as directed by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of standard accounts payable policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to understand and interpret contracts terms, purchase orders and related documentation as well as vendor invoices, statements and other requests for payment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate record keeping systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others within and outside the company.
  • Proficiency in the use of computerized accounting systems and commonly used software programs (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with a paperless environment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
