Job Summary

The Benefits Representative is a member of the Benefits Contact Center. This individual spends most of their time responding to employee questions and issues regarding the Harvard Employee Benefit programs. These inquiries may come through via phone, email or in person.

Position Description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Answer employee benefits questions and resolve individual benefits issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure individual service levels for availability are met.
  • Research second-level issues using internal resources and vendor contacts as required. If necessary, escalates issue for resolution using pre-defined processes.
  • Document all issues and questions using the case management tool and following office procedures.
  • Reply to written inquires to Benefits office email box following department guidelines. Escalate questions for resolution using pre-defined processes.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

High school diploma required.
Minimum three (3) years of related customer service experience, preferably in an employee Benefits Office.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • In addition to the Basic Qualifications above, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the following strongly preferred skills and experience:
  • A college degree or some college coursework. An equivalent of education plus relevant experience in an employee Benefits Office may fulfill this preference.
  • In order to serve Harvard’s diverse population, fluency in languages in addition to English is strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Presentation skills
  • PeopleSoft experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion

Working Conditions

This position will be based on our campus in Cambridge, MA.
All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT). Harvard Human Resources is currently developing hybrid workplace models which actively support some remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business) where business and team needs allow. Furthermore, individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process.

This is a full-time Non-Exempt position. Typical business hours are Monday through Friday, 9AM - 5PM, 35 hours per week.
